Technology

Today at technology I was in hard materials with Mr Grundy, in our class we were working on wood. The first thing I had to do was chisel out the wood to make a joint, I had to make sure it was snug and tight so that the joint wouldn ´ t slip out when being handled carelessly. I am almost done with my chosen design which is a mirror, all I have to do is connect the reflective glass and I have completed one project.

BLAKE Organisation

Today we had the luck of experiencing sea life through virtual reality. We learnt different species of fish, along with other sea life. The major threats to our ocean are ocean pollution, overfishing, and climate change. The name of the BLAKE organisation was inspired by the famous New Zealand sailor Sir Peter Blake, he is said to have sailed around the whole world, winning numerous competitions, like the America´s cup, and the Whitebread round the world yacht race.

Tupaia was a skilled navigator, he was a kind, generous, and talented man. Tupaia spoke a wide variety of polynesian languages. James Cook and Tupaia settled in the Endeavour to set off on the remarkable journey that remains in history.

Cooking Bake Bean Curry

Today our teacher decided to teach us how to make baked bean curry with curry masala. The first thing we had to do was gather all of the needed ingredients, next we had to add oil into the pan and let it preheat for a little. After 2 minutes or so we added onions and stirred it around for only 30 seconds no more and no less. We then added the rest of the ingredients and let it cook. The final product was perfect it was pleasant and savoury. We ate the baked bean curry with bread rolls which added the final touch.

Kupe and The Giant Wheke

This week our teacher assigned my class to read this story, with this story she assigned a couple of tasks for us to do. The book we are reading is Kupe and The Giant Wheke, a traditional story retold by Steph Matuku. This passage was narrated about an Octopus that was stealing food and was later hunted down by Kupe and some Maori warriors to be killed. This octopus was not like any other normal octopus that me and you have probably seen, this octopus was massive and was named Te wheke, his owner was Maturangi he was known by many locals as a selfish and unkind person. Te Wheke was way bigger than the size of the waka that Kupe had used to track and chase down Te Wheke. Later on in the story Te Wheke gets cornered by Kupe and some Maori Warriors.

Across The Sea

This week we are reading a book the title of the book we are reading is Across the Sea. Our teacher has assigned many tasks for my group and I, the tasks  relate to what happened in the story. We first had to track the new and unfamiliar words that we found in the passage, then we added the words into our vocabulary sheet. In this vocabulary sheet we had to type what we thought the word meant and then what the real meaning was after researching the definition.

Mothers Day

Mothers day is always celebrated on the second week of May we acknowledge this holiday to honor mothers and all the contributions they make to their families and society. If you are wondering who invented mothers day that title will go to Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had organized women’s groups to promote friendship and health.

ANZAC day

ANZAC stands for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp. Many many soldiers fought together in World War I on April 25th 1915, the war took place on the beaches of Gallipoli Peninsula. Even though these many soldiers didn’t win the tough and gruesome war, their bravery will always be remembered every year on the 25th of April. The ANZAC holiday honors all the soldiers who served and sacrificed themselves in the war.

Energy Changes

Different Energy Types

  • Potential energy – Stored
  • Thermal energy – heat
  • Bio/Organic – Living/Compost
  • Kinetic  energy – Movement

  1. Dinosaur toy – Bio, Potential → Kinetic → Sound
  2. Frog – Bio, Mechanical, → Kinetic →  Sound
  3. Engine – Thermal, → Kinetic
  4. Bell – Bio, Potential,  Kinetic → Sound
  5. Bulb – Chemica, Potential, Electric, → Light → Thermal
  6. Hot wheels – Bio, Potential, Mechanical → Kinetic
  7. Spinning wheel – Bio, Gravity → Kinetic
  8. Candle – Bio, Potential → Thermal → Light
  9. Food/Drink – Bio → Calories
  10. Solar panel – Light → Electric

Today at Technology my teacher Mr Malhotra questioned my classmates and I what we knew about the different types of energy. He then asked us what the definition was to test if we truly understood how the energy was produced or made.  The examples above are the different types of objects that we tested to find what variety of energy was used to make them function/work.
